Introduction

The Department of Agricultural sciences is a hub of knowledge, innovation, and expertise dedicated to fostering advancements in the field of agriculture for the students. Department of Agricultural Sciences At Radha Govind University Ramgargh, Jharkhand established in the year 2019, and offer Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Agriculture (Honours) programme is four-year undergraduate academic degree program that focuses on agricultural scientific research and activities including Genomics and Plant Biotechnology, Agricultural Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Agronomy, and so on, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of agricultural sciences, practices, and management. Department characterized by the triple mandate of teaching, research and agricultural extension. This specialized program equips students with the knowledge and skills required to address challenges in modern agriculture, sustainable food production, and agribusiness. Since the inception, department have followed a semester system with credit-based, continuous evaluation on a 10-point GPA scale. This is different from general universities, which usually follow a yearly term and percentage based end-session evaluation. As envisioned in ICAR's Model Act for Agricultural Universities. This course covers agricultural science as well as the effective application of contemporary agricultural technologies and equipment in real-world situations. Course curriculum is designed as per the ICAR guidelines with a one-semester internship is also required as part of the B.Sc. Agriculture curriculum (Rural Agricultural Work Experience) in the last semester. The majority of the courses in this field are practical, with an emphasis on “hands-on” experience and “learning by doing”. Department fulfills minimum criteria of ICAR mandates like Laboratory facilities, field experimental plot for field practical / research and infrastructure for all the subjects of agriculture are well developed. Faculty members are Ph.D. holders from state agriculture university/ ICAR institutions have strong academic background in the field of agriculture having NET qualification conducted by ICAR-ASRB. Departments admits average students from rural/urban areas and molds them into a professional agriculture graduates. In the coming year post graduate (PG and Ph.D.) course of different subjects will also about to start soon. The student strength increases in arithmetical progression year after year and the department leaves no stone unturned in striving to increase it exponentially in the forthcoming year

To produce agricultural graduates with high knowledge and competence by imparting practical technical education through innovative and analytical approach with an objective to create valuable manpower for sustainable agriculture, Argo- Industry and contribution to the society.

Mission

  • To develop human resources and to generate appropriate, efficient & effective technology for sustainable growth in agriculture and allied fields ensuing enhanced food & nutrition security, income generation and environmental safety
  • Develop academically qualified human resources through UG, PG, Ph.D and other academic programmes in different branches of agriculture & allied sciences.
  • Conduct basic, strategic and need based area specific applied research in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture Engineering, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and other allied fields to develop technologies relevant to farming community for livelihood security and high farm income.
  • Undertake extension education and training programmes for improving the agricultural situation of the state and socioeconomic status of weaker sections of the society especially in rural areas.
  • Help and provide technical guidance to the state Govt. for development of agriculture in the state.
  • Develop collaborative linkages with state agriculture universities, govt. departments, national & International organizations for fulfilling above objectives.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs) B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

PEO1.To provide the sound knowledge in the Agriculture and allied science subjects required to solve common problems in management of crop cultivation, improvement, livestock rearing and their marketing.

PEO2.To develop a good teaching-learning environment for higher studies and help in selection of professional careers in government and private organization, Agro-based industries, educational/ research/extension, institutes etc.

PEO3.To develop the skills for leadership, ethical integrity, and professional engagement in agriculture and allied science.

PEO4.To provide adequate information about natural and other resources through a course curriculum for the betterment of life.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs) of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

PSO1Develop the knowledge-based resources and technologies for the enhancement of decision-making ability in students for selection of higher studies in Agriculture.

PSO2Demonstrate the thoughts of the legal and ethical issues of the environment impacting agriculture and food security of the local and global population.

PSO3Establish a self-motivated system working of agriculture education to attain the local and global demands of agriculture professionals in agriculture and allied sectors.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POs) of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture

After completing the course the students will be able to:

PO1-Understand the basic knowledge of agriculture and related subjects in the current scenario of Indian and world Agriculture

PO2 -Develop an understanding of communication methods, resources utilization, cultivation of crops, management of crops, and value addition of agricultural produces.

PO3- Develop the skills to manage agricultural farms, enhance quality of farmproduces and their commercial utilization.

PO4- Demonstrate the methods used in collection, presentation of data and analysis of results of experiments in laboratories and fields and their validation.

PO5- Understand all related methods in agriculture to increase the profit from crop fields and livestock.

PO6-Learn to make optimum decision at various levels that enhances the success as an agricultural enterprise.

PO7-Extension activities in agriculture and allied sectors around the local villages through Rural Agricultural Work Experience and Agro-Industrial Attachment (RAWE & AIA).

PO8-Harmonize the relation with Agriculture Research Institutions, State Agriculture Universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), etc.

PO9-Motivate for entrepreneurship, start-up through project planning and execution, research and training during field visits etc.
